U.S. Senator Pat Toomey has decided to call it a career at the end of his term, which will be in 2022.
Toomey has served two terms as the U.S. Senator, and plans to return to the private sector after the end of his term. Toomey was considered by many to be a future Republican candidate for Governor, and was considered an odds-on favorite if he decided to run for the open Governor’s seat.
During a news conference earlier today, Toomey thanked his colleague, Democratic Senator Bob Casey, saying the two of them “outpaced…almost every other divided delegation in the Senate in the category of filling vacancies on the federal bench.”
He says that he will work as hard as he can before the end of his term, saying that he will be able to focus on the issues at hand with the extra time that would have been spent on a re-election campaign.
