While many of IUP’s homecoming activities have been called off due to Coronavirus concerns, the university is looking to hold several events virtually to commemorate what would have been homecoming weekend.
IUP is planning on holding some events on social media to help celebrate homecoming with IUP alumni around the world. The festivities kicked off on Saturday as IUP’s marching band held a concert at George P. Miller stadium. No fans were in attendance, but video was streamed to IUP’s Website and is available on their Facebook and YouTube pages. Today’s check-in is for people to represent what group they were part of while on campus by sharing a photo with team, organization or club apparel. Other online events include a virtual Spanish lesson for kids 10 and under with Spanish education student Morgan Bailey, the annual homecoming hip-hop concert featuring D Smoke and Flawless Real Talk, which will be held on Zoom.
For the homecoming parade, IUP will hold a Virtual Parade with a video montage of the last 50 years of Homecoming Parades set to IUP Marching Band music. The university will also air a classic IUP football game from 2005 homecoming game between IUP and Slippery Rock. The Voice of the Crimson Hawks, Jack Benedict will talk with former coach Frank Cignetti and some of the players who took part in that game, followed by the game in its entirety. That special event will be held on Facebook and YouTube.
