It could not get any tighter for Indiana atop the final WPIAL section golf regular season standings.
Needing a win to get into the playoffs, Indiana nipped Norwin 199-203, and that four-stroke win created a three-way tie for first place in the section. Indiana, Norwin, and Penn Trafford all finished 9-3, with Indiana sweeping Norwin, Penn Trafford sweeping Indiana, and Norwin sweeping Penn Trafford. And all three teams lost to Armstrong in the regular season.
Freshman Harrison Martineau shot a career-best even-par 36 and earned medalist honors for Indiana. His round included three birdies on the Youghiogheny Country Club course. Alex Holuta carded a 39, Zach Eisenhower and Trevor Todd both shot 41, and Danny Williams a 42.
The Indiana girls’ golfers wrapped up the regular season with a win over Kiski Area yesterday, 189-235, to raise their overall record to 11-2. Indiana was led by match medalist Hannah Reilly, who fired a 45. Sara Kane shot 46, Ally Conrad 48, Jenny Todd 50 and Sydney Brice 56.
This season, Indiana set new team scoring records for a dual match, best winning percentage, and best section record, and they qualified for the WPIAL team championship for the first time ever. The championships begin on Monday at Conoquenessing Country Club.
VOLLEYBALL
Indiana lost in volleyball yesterday, 1-3, to Franklin Regional. Taylor Sheesley had 10 assists and seven kills. Emily Madey had 11 assists and six digs. Megan Brocious had 12 digs. Abbie Huey had 8 kills. Lizzy Lubold had four blocks.
JV lost 1-2 against Franklin Regional.
