Steelers rookie minicamp concluded yesterday at the UPMC Sports Complex on Pittsburgh’s South Side.
Coach Mike Tomlin was happy to be back in his element, coaching football, and was excited to get his eyes on his young guys. He said they have a lot to learn.
The Steelers welcomed their seven draft picks and thirteen undrafted free agents and XFL players. They also had a number of unsigned invitees. Tomlin said the team looks for specific qualities in those “trial” players.
On Friday, the Steelers signed four of their seven draft picks: Tight end Darnell Washington, outside linebacker Nick Herbig, cornerback Cory Trice, and offensive lineman Spencer Anderson. They also signed six undrafted free agents they’d previously come to agreement with: quarterback Tanner Morgan, wide receiver Jordan Byrd, fullback Monte Pottebaum, linebacker David Perales, defensive end James Nyamwaya, and kicker B.T. Potter.
The team’s first round draft pick, tackle Broderick Jones, second rounder Joey Porter Jr., and third rounder Keeanu Benton are still not signed.
