Indiana Fire Association members were called out for a reported structure fire that turned out to be a culinary mishap.
The call went out Wednesday afternoon for Indiana firefighters, the RIT team and Citizens Ambulance to a home near Whippoorwill Street and Hamil Road in White Township. The call turned out to be a pot of fluid boiling over and the resulting smoke set off the smoke alarms in the house. No one was home at the time, so Indiana Fire Association Members had to enter through an open window and remove the super-heated pot and turn off the electric stove. Fire officials say that the smoke alarms were loud enough to alert a nearby neighbor who called 911 after that.
While no damage or injuries were reported, it could have been worse. Assistant Chief Ron Moreau said that incidents like that are a good reason to have fresh batteries in the smoke detectors and alert neighbors to report the problem.
