The Steelers will continue to prepare for the Tennessee Titans game as if it will be played this Sunday at 1 o’clock, as scheduled, after the announcement yesterday that the Titans are suspending in-person activities at team facilities due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The NFL says eight members of the Titans organization, including three players, have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he was not involved in the discussions about whether or not to play or delay the game. Tomlin says the team will follow its usual practice schedule for a Sunday game until it hears otherwise.
Tomlin says his players and coaches can’t control outside factors, so they will focus on playing the game.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the league intends to play the game as scheduled Sunday, but playing Monday is a contingency plan.
The Minnesota Vikings, who played the Titans on Sunday, also suspended activities at their team facilities. They say no Vikings personnel have tested positive for Covid-19.
On the injury front, fullback Derek Watt has been ruled out for Sunday with a hamstring injury. Safety Marcus Allen is doubtful with plantar fasciitis. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson remains in concussion protocol and Tomlin would not speculate on his availability.
