PENGUINS CAN NAP DURING FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF NHL DRAFT

The NHL set its draft order yesterday, and the Penguins will wait a long time before finally making a selection.  Having traded away their first- and second-round draft choices, the Penguins will have the 77^th overall pick, in the third round.

The first-round pick, fifteenth overall, was traded to Toronto last month for winger Kasperi Kapanen, the Penguins’ former number-one pick, back in 2015.

The second-round pick was traded in 2017 as part of a complicated deal to ensure that the Vegas Golden Knights would choose Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury in the expansion draft.  Vegas traded the rights to that selection to Chicago this year.

In addition to the third-round choice, the Penguins will also have picks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds.  Those are the 108^th, 139^th, and 170^th overall selections.

The first round of the draft is next Tuesday, with the other six rounds on Wednesday.  The first five picks will belong to the Rangers, Senators (through a trade with the Sharks), the Red Wings, Senators again, and the Ducks.
