By a 6-3 vote, the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board last night appointed former Homer-Center Superintendent Dr. Charles Koren as the district’s acting superintendent, at a salary of $500 a day for as long as one year, with the right to end the agreement at any time,
The hiring, in the words of the motion, came because it is “impossible and impracticable to fill the superintendent vacancy immediately.”
Former Superintendent Jeff Soles resigned in August and was replaced temporarily by acting interim superintendent Phillip Martel, who resigned last week.
Koren is familiar with Blairsville-Saltsburg district issues, having been hired by the board in January as a “facilitator” to aid in discussion on the possibility of consolidation and reconfiguration within the district. He retired from Homer-Center in September of last year.
