Penelec customers will see a slight increase in electricity rates starting on June 1st. The utility’s Price to Compare will go up 1.49 percent, to 9.7 cents per kilowatt hour.
Some electric customers will see an increase, some a decrease in the quarterly rate. Met-Ed customers will have an increase of 2.49 percent, to 10.24 per kilowatt hour. West Penn rates will go up 20.67 percent, but will still be only 9.93 cents per kilowatt hour. Pennsylvania Power & Light, which operates in the central and eastern parts of the state, will decrease their rate to compare 17 percent, but their customers will still be paying 12.126 cents per kilowatt hour.
The Price to Compare represents between 50 and 60 percent of your bill. It reflects the cost of generating electricity. The rest of the bill is for the distribution cost.
