The Pirates’ Ke’Bryan Hayes has been named the National League’s rookie of the month for September. The third baseman hit .376 with five homers after his callup on September 1st.

The American League playoff begins today with all eight teams in action. The best-of-three wild card round starts with the Astros at the Twins, the White Sox at the A’s, the Blue Jays at the Rays and the Yankees at the Indians. Four NL wild card series start tomorrow.
Former major league outfielder Jay Johnstone died over the weekend at age 74 from the effects of Covid-19. Johnstone played for eight teams, winning World Series titles with the Yankees and Dodgers.
