State police have issued the report on last Thursday morning crash involving a school bus on Route 422 in Armstrong Township. Police say an Indiana couple suffered serious injuries in the collision.
The accident happened at 7:52 AM near the intersection with Trim Tree Road when westbound 80-year-old Larry Lockard of Indiana suffered an apparent medical condition and lost control of his car, running into the back end of a tractor-trailer truck, which was operated by 33-year-old Cody Cramer of Indiana. After the impact, Lockard’s car crossed the highway, hit the guardrail, then continued for more than a quarter mile, where it struck an embankment, became airborne for sixty feet, and hit a bus parked legally along the roadway.
Lockard and 81-year-old Mary Lockard were flown from the scene to UPMC Presbyterian Medical Center in Pittsburgh. Cramer was not injured.
Indiana firefighters, Citizens Ambulance, and Stat Medevac were all dispatched to the scene and Route 422 was closed to traffic for more than an hour.
