The Penguins have traded forward Patric Hornqvist to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Mike Matheson and forward Colton Sceviour.
Hornqvist has spent the past six seasons with Pittsburgh and helped win two Stanley Cups. He was Jim Rutherford’s first acquisition as Penguins GM, and Rutherford says it will be tough to see him go.
Rutherford says he’s getting two younger, good hockey players in return.
Matheson was Florida’s number one draft pick in 2012. He scored eight goals with 12 assists and was a minus-1 last year. He has six years left on a contract that pays him $4.875 million a year.
