GOLF
The Indiana girls golfers have qualified for the WPIAL Team Championship for the first time in school history. They beat Connellsville, 190-221 yesterday at the Indiana Country Club. Sara Kane was match medalist, leading the way for Indiana with a 46. Sydney Brice shot a 47, Ally Conrad a 48, Hannah Reilly 49, and Jenny Todd 61.
Indiana is 8-2 in Section 3. They will play their final dual match next Thursday against Kiski in Apollo. The WPIAL Team Championship is on Monday, October 5th at the Connoquenessing Country Club.
The Indiana boys golf team upped its section record to 7-3 with a 210-234 win over Greensburg-Salem, also at the Indiana Country Club.
Trevor Todd fired a 40 to lead Indiana. Danny Williams and Alex Holuta each shot 41. Harrison Martineau and Zach Eisenhower both shot 44 and Jack Fischer had a 47.
Indiana will be on the road at Latrobe on Monday and at Norwin next Thursday, needing to win both matches to qualify for the WPIAL championships.
At the District 6 AA Golf Sectional yesterday, West Shamokin took the team title, with a collective score of 325, besting second-place Penn Cambria by 12 strokes.
The Wolves’ Eric Spencer was medalist with a 72 and teammate Jack McCullough was second, with a 74. Other Heritage Conference golfers making the coming up on Tuesday In Hollidaysburg are Homer Center’s Evan Ober, who shot 82 yesterday; and Northern Cambria’s Brady Houser and West Shamokin’s Sean McCullough, who both shot 88.
VOLLEYBALL
The Indiana volleyball team picked up another shutout win yesterday, defeating Greensburg-Salem 3-0.
Taylor Sheesley had 12 assists, 10 kills, and 4 blocks. Emily Madey had 18 assists. Megan Brocious had 16 digs. Abbie Huey had 9 kills and 6 aces. Peyton Ream and Mia Ciocca each contributed 6 kills. Katie Kovalchick had 4 blocks.
Indiana JV also won their match, 2-1. Audrey Josephson had 9 assists and 3 kills. Alex Ball had 9 digs. Maycie Lorelli had 6 digs and 5 kills. Katie Kovalchick had 5 digs and 4 aces.
