A waste-injection well in Grant Township is scheduled to be plugged sometime after Memorial Day.
Pennsylvania General Energy LLC has informed the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection that it intends to plug the proposed injection well. Over the past few months, the DEP has issued multiple violations for problems at the proposed well site.
The township had been fighting the frack waste injection well since 2013, according to the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, and enacted a home rule charter in 2015 that banned fracking waste. In 2022, the CELDF said that commonwealth court agreed with the DEP and invalidated the charter. Since then, it has been appealed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
An exact date on when the well will be plugged has not been released.
