While Indiana County’s Covid-19 numbers continue to remain high, superintendents of the county’s K-12 public schools are saying that they will not change the current plans they have in place.
According to Homer-Center Superintendent Curt Whitesel, the superintendents met with both the Departments of Health and Education and as expected, it was announced that Indiana County’s positivity rate remained above 10 percent, keeping the county in the substantial category. It was recommended by both the Departments of Health and Education that the Indiana County school districts enter remote learning, but the ultimate decision on that would be left up to the districts. Whitesel said that all seven superintendents for the Indiana County school districts said they would stay with their current plans for instructional delivery, because the districts themselves have had minimal or zero cases of Covid-19 in their schools.
Many of the cases in Indiana County have been in the Indiana Borough/White Township area, and Whitesel said that they were asked if the 15701 zip code numbers were being taken into effect when the recommendation was made.
Whitesell said the talks will continue between the superintendents and the departments of Health and Education.
Whitesel added that the districts agreed that if numbers within the school started to increase, they would look at a possible change.
