The Pirates’ Mitch Keller pitched six no-hit innings before being taken out because of his pitch count last night against the Cardinals. He left with a 4-0 lead, and the Bucs’ bullpen promptly gave up five runs in the seventh to lose the game, 5-4.
Pirates’ pitchers gave up three walks, hit two batters, and surrendered three hits in the seventh inning to spoil Keller’s outing. He threw 84 pitches but he only returned from the injured list one start ago, and manager Derek Shelton was not going to budge from his 85-pitch limit.
Ke’Bryan Hayes had a home run and a double for the Pirates.
Here’s Joe Block with the recap.
