State police have charged a man with public drunkenness and other crimes for an incident at the Marion Center Speedway on Saturday. Troopers were dispatched at 8:35 PM Saturday night for the incident at the race track in East Mahoning Township. It was determined that 37-year-old Matthew Pacconi was under the influence of alcohol. When police took him to IRMC to be medically cleared to go to the county jail, he became disorderly and unruly with hospital staffers and troopers. He also urinated in the room he was in, causing hospital staff to re-sanitize the room. As he was being placed back into custody to go to the county jail, he resisted arrest. Pacconi faces charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and three counts of disorderly conduct. He is free on $5,000 bond but is due back in court on May 31st for a preliminary hearing.
A White Township woman was scammed out of $50 in a gift-card scheme. State police reported the incident happened on Monday around noon. The victim, a 93-year-old woman, was called by an unknown person who said they wanted to exchange an Amazon gift card for a large sum of money. After buying the $50 gift card and giving it to the caller, she was contacted again for additional gift cards. The victim realized what was going on and discontinued contact.
