Today is the kickoff for the United Way of Indiana County’s annual fundraising campaign, and like a lot of things this year, it has been affected by concerns over Covid-19.
Instead of a large party, which has been tradition over the last few years, the kickoff party has gone virtual and will be shown on the United Way’s website and on social media. Co-chair Kris Levan said that there is an upside to the changes being made in the kickoff event: It is free to the public.
The theme for the year is honoring local first responders, and the event will be held at the Indiana Fire Association station on Philadelphia Street. Eight local first responders will be on hand to help reveal the annual goal for the fundraiser.
Since September 1st, the United Way has held one of their traditional parts of the annual kickoff event in an online format as they have sold tickets online for basket raffles. The winners will be announced tonight.
You’ll be able to view the kickoff on the United Way of Indiana County’s Facebook page.
