On Tuesday night, the United School Board voted to advertise the 2023-2024 school district budget.
The budget came to $23,478,471 in expenditures and $23,210,749 in revenues, leaving a deficit of $267,722. The budget does not contain a tax increase for district residents, leaving the tax rate at 11.156 mills. Board President Eric Matava thanked his fellow board members for their work, and had confidence that the board will find a way to cover the deficit.
Hunter Overdorff voted against the budget, saying he was concerned with the deficit.
In other business, the board approved entering into an agreement with Frantz Law Group and Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter and Graham, LLP to join a lawsuit filed by other school districts against social media companies. The board also accepted, with regret, the resignation of Patricia Berezansky from her position of Director of Education effective the end of the school year. She has served the district for 31 years.
