Arson fires are not uncommon in our area, and two fires over the weekend have been ruled arsons, with state police seeking the public’s help in finding suspects.
One of those fires, as reported yesterday was the blaze that destroyed the Valley Inn in Young Township, an abandoned building along Route 286. The other, according to a ruling by state police fire marshal Keith Sobecki was actually two fires at a home along Market Street in Bolivar.
Sobecki says both of the fires in Bolivar were intentionally set. A porch fire reported at 1 AM on Sunday at the home at 530 Market Street was extinguished with minimal damage. But the arsonist apparently returned to finish the job, and firefighters responded at 5:30 AM. This time it was too late and the home was completely destroyed. The family living there was not home at the time and is being assisted by the Red Cross. The next door neighbor’s home, close by, was damaged.
Sobecki says both fires were “incendiary in nature”, but he has not provided any further details. He is asking anyone who knows anything about either fire to call him at 724-832-3256. He does not believe the two fires are connected.
