Troopers are seeking information after a man was found to have been shot early this morning at a White Township apartment complex.
On September 13, 2020 at 12:15 AM, members of the Troop A, Indiana Patrol Unit were dispatched to reports of multiple gunshots being fired in the area of the 300 block of Medlar Drive, which is within The Verge I apartment complex (formerly Copper Beech), White Township. At 12:20 AM, the first responding trooper arrived on-scene and observed multiple people and vehicles fleeing the area. Approximately 200-250 people were observed in the area upon troopers’ arrival.
Troopers then located the victim, identified as a 19-year-old male of Aliquippa, PA, on the ground in a parking lot as he was receiving medical aid from bystanders at the scene. EMS was summoned and Citizens’ Ambulance Service personnel immediately responded. The victim was then flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian for advanced medical treatment. The victim was found to have sustained several gunshot wounds. He is currently listed in critical condition and is expected to survive.
Responding troopers secured the scene and conducted numerous interviews in an attempt to identify the suspect(s) and gather details of the incident. Troopers are continuing to work to obtain a description of the suspect(s).
Among several pieces of evidence recovered at the scene were thirteen empty 9 mm casings and an unloaded Taurus .380 caliber pistol. A nearby vehicle was also found to have been struck by at least two rounds during the shooting.
The Troop A, Indiana Patrol and Criminal Investigation Units and the Troop A Forensic Services Unit were assisted on-scene by Indiana County District Attorney Robert F. Manzi, Jr., the Indiana Borough Police Department, Citizens’ Ambulance Service, and Indiana County Emergency Management Agency.
