IUP’s spring and summer 2020 graduates will be recognized today, but it will take on a virtual format as concerns over Covid-19 continue to be prevalent.
The ceremonies were originally going to be held in late May and were to be in-person ceremonies, but the ceremonies were postponed in mid-March at the start of the Coronavirus Outbreak. President Driscoll would later change the program from in-person ceremonies to virtual ceremonies as he felt it wouldn’t be safe for IUP’s students, the community or the potential visitors for the in-person ceremonies to be held.
Six individual ceremonies will be posted for viewing today starting at 9:00 AM. Each ceremony is specific to the graduate, master’s and doctoral recipients of each college. Brittany Hall of Chester, who will receive her doctorate of philosophy in English will give the graduate student address, while Madison Hornstein and Andrew Junttonen will give the undergraduate addresses. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll will also address the graduates, while IUP Council of Trustees president and Vice-chair of the state system of higher education Sam Smith will speak on behalf of the trustees.
IUP will confer a total of 1,360 bachelor’s degrees, 393 masters degrees, 69 doctoral degrees and 14 associate degrees. Of the bachelor’s degree applicants, 663 qualified for latin honors with a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
