A Saltsburg man accused of several drug-related and other crimes remains at large today.
State police are continuing to look for 36-year-old Monty Gene Smith, who was initially arrested on August 31st during a traffic stop in the area of Philadelphia and 4th Streets in Indiana Borough. When police pulled him over for traffic violations, they saw a prescription pill bottle in the glove box, a white powdery substance on the floor between Smith’s feet, and some small black rubber bands on the passenger seat and floorboards.
A police search turned up some packets of suboxone, eight stamp bags filled with what was believed to be fentanyl, other items of drug paraphernalia, two smartphones and a digital safe. Inside the safe was $7,880 in cash and another 677 stamp bags of suspected fentanyl.
Smith was arrested, but later released pending further investigation, and police are trying to find him now. Smith is charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and of drug paraphernalia, along with three summary traffic charges. He is described by police at five-feet-seven-inches tall, 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
