The Indiana Little Indians saw head-to-head action this year for the first time, as they played the Burrell Bucs Saturday morning in an hour and a half scrimmage. In the game, both teams took 10 plays per drive, and more than 80 percent of offensive plays focused on the rushing attack.
Head Coach Brandon Overdorff said that Saturday’s match-up put the students’ desire to earn a starting spot in motion.
In addition, Overdorff says the quarterback competition between juniors Devin Flint and Fox Van Leer did not clear up much as both showed efficiency in different areas offensively on Saturday.
Another positive note in the scrimmage was the rush prevention on the defensive side of the ball. Junior Owen Clifford and freshman Isaac Nygren each tallied a tackle for loss, with Nygren also adding a fumble recovery to his stat line.
In the JV portion of the scrimmage sophomore Liam McFarlane rushed for more than 60 yards and a touchdown. Overdorff said his work ethic and his performance could find him some varsity time this season.
The Indians will finish up camp this week with opening night set for Friday at Armstrong. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and you can hear the action beginning at 6:30 on WDAD-AM 1450 and 100.3.
