State police are starting their Labor Day weekend enforcement efforts today.
Between today and Monday, September 7th, the five stations that make up the Troop A region will have beefed up patrols and will focus on distracted, aggressive and intoxicated motorists.
Over the 2019 Labor Day weekend, State Police in Troop A made 871 traffic stops and issued 883 citations. Of those citations, 16 of them were for not wearing a seatbelt, two of them were for child safety seat violations, and 594 citations were issued for speeding. Another 271 citations were issued for other reasons.
Also last year, state police made 15 DUI arrests and investigated only one alcohol-related crash in the Troop A region. Six crashes were investigated by state troopers last Labor Day.
Troop A covers a majority of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties and all of Somerset and Cambria Counties.
