State Representative Jim Struzzi announced yesterday that resolutions concerning CBD and Kratom have passed the House Health Committee.
House Resolution 459 would request guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration concerning the sale of CBD products, while House Resolution 460 would request guidelines concerning the safe use of Kratom. CBD products have been touted for their anti-inflammatory qualities and the ability to help with symptoms of anxiety, insomnia and pain. Kratom has been marketed as an energy booster, mood enhancer, pain reliever and as an antidote for opioid withdrawal, but many groups including the Mayo Clinic have said that Kratom is actually not safe and ineffective.
Struzzi said in a statement that without oversight from the FDA, there is a lack of consistency in the market, and it leads to retailers not fully knowing what the products they sell do.
