TENNIS
The IUP women’s tennis team yesterday beat Slippery Rock for the third time this season, 4-1, in the Atlantic Region Two Championship match. IUP will make its 11th appearance in the Division II Championships in the last 13 years, starting May 11th in Orlando.
Slippery Rock grabbed the first point yesterday with a win in doubles. But IUP’s Natalie Kmoskova, Lydia Vlachou, Laura Dunarova, and Joanna Stralka all won their singles matches to seal the team victory.
LACROSSE
It could not have been any closer for the IUP women’s lacrosse team against Mercyhurst, but the Crimson Hawks fell in double overtime, 11-10, in the PSAC Quarterfinals. Chantal Jimenez scored four goals for IUP and Emme Mass had two.
SOFTBALL
IUP’s Delaney Patella is the PSAC West Freshman of the Year and also has made the PSAC West First Team. Patella won national honors this season with the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week Award and also was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week two straight weeks. Playing catcher and third base, she hit .378 with nine home runs and 41 RBIs. She had twelve multi-hit games and a .981 fielding percentage.
