In a move that’s been predicted and anticipated by many, and hinted at by those close to the US Congress, current House Majority Leader Dave Reed will run for the 9th Congressional District seat that is being vacated later this year by Bill Shuster.
Initially, Reed was reluctant to run for Congress, but after a lot of discussions with his family, Reed said he found a reason to run. He felt that the system was broke to begin with, but if he didn’t take action, he would feel like he’s part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

Reed said that as he makes his run for congress, his number one platform will be to focus on the communities in Western and Central Pennsylvania. He said that a lot of people dream of going to DC to be big in DC. He’s more concerned about the families and communities, and the issues they face.
Reed is a self-professed “process person” and said that his experience in the State House will be a great preparation for going to Congress, and will allow him to focus on policies, which has been a passion of his in his time in state government.
Reed is joining a crowded field in the Republican primary. Longtime Shuster opponent Art Halvorson, State Senator John Eichelberger and Franklin County farmer and businessman Travis Schooley have already declared they are running for the Republican nomination. The primary election will be held May 15th.
