The educational website Niche has issued its 2018 ranking of the best school districts in the nation, including in Pennsylvania, based on a variety of factors including U.S. Department of Education data, test scores, college information, and ratings.
The website issues grades in six categories: Academics, Teachers, Clubs & Activities, Diversity, College Prep, and Health & Safety. Scores in those categories are combined to come up with an overall letter grade.
Six of the seven Indiana County school districts make the state’s rankings, with Purchase Line the only exception. The website does not explain why Purchase Line was excluded, whether for a low grade or a lack of data.
The highest ranking district in Indiana County is Indiana Area, with an overall grade of A (minus). The district earned an A for teachers, and A (minuses) in Academics and College Prep, B (pluses) for Clubs & Activities and Health & Safety. It scored a B (minus) in Diversity.
All of the other ranked districts in the county scored a B (minus). In order of their highest “grade point average”, they are Homer Center, Penns Manor, United, Blairsville-Saltsburg, and Marion Center.
Schools earning A’s or A (minuses) in the listed categories include Homer Center and Penns Manor for Teachers, and Homer Center, Penns Manor, and Marion Center for Health & Safety.
