Governor Tom Wolf is using executive order to extend the Covid-19 disaster declaration another 90 days.
The order extends the declaration put in place on March 6th and will extend it another 90 days to November 29th. In his amendment, Wolf stated that Pennsylvania has had 134,025 people had either tested positive or met requirements to be considered a possible case for Covid-19 in all 67 counties, and 7,495 deaths have been reported in Pennsylvania.
In a statement released this morning, Governor Wolf said that the extension will continue to provide increased support to state agencies involved in the continued response to the Coronavirus and recovery for the state during the reopening process. It will also allow for waivers and extensions to continue to provide for state residents and businesses during the pandemic, and it will also allow the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to rapidly scale response efforts and employ new intervention tactics, including vaccine administration once a vaccine becomes available.
State Representative Jim Struzzi said he was not surprised by the Governor’s extension, but said that he feels that the people of the state need to get back to work.
Struzzi added that people are still struggling with the unemployment compensation system, and the extension will cause an additional hardship for many of the state’s residents.
