For some of Indiana County’s School Districts, today is the first day of school as some students will return to face-to-face instruction while others will attend classes virtually.
Homer-Center School District had their first day today, and students were met by members of the Homer City fire department at the front entrance, all wearing masks to show that it’s not so bad to wear a mask. As part of the district’s health and safety plan, students are required to wear face coverings like masks or plastic face shields at all times, with some exceptions. That includes eating and drinking when spaced six feet apart, during face mask breaks when they can be six feet apart, but that will be for no more than ten minutes at a time, and when wearing a face covering would be a safety risk for operating equipment or performing a task.
School also starts today for the Marion Center school district, and they are operating on a “staggered start” schedule with half of the student population every other day.
Penns Manor and United School Districts have already started their school year. Blairsville-Saltsburg, Indiana and Purchase Line School districts will start on September 8th.
