An Indiana man charged with drug delivery resulting in death will have a preliminary hearing today.
52-year-old James Emanuel Emmerson is due before District Judge Susanne Steffee today for the hearing connected with charges that were filed on April 13th in connection with an incident on February 4th of last year. State police found 23-year-old Chad Richard Stineman of Coral dead in a home along Locust Street. It was believed at the time that he had died due to a drug overdose, and that was confirmed by a toxicology exam that was part of an autopsy conducted at ForensicDX in Windber. That scan detected both fentanyl and xylazine. State police conducted an investigation into how Stineman got the drugs and they say that Emmerson intentionally sold, delivered and distributed the drugs that lead to Stineman’s death.
On top of the drug delivery charge, Emmerson faces charges of possession with intent to deliver and criminal use of a communications facility. He has been in Indiana County Jail since his arrest as he was unable to post $150,000 cash bond.
Also due in court for a preliminary hearing today is 25-year-old Kenneth Murphy of Indiana, who is facing two counts of aggravated assault, one of them with intent to cause serious bodily injury and the other with a deadly weapon. He is also charged with assault by a prisoner, simple assault, harassment and making terroristic threats for an incident at on January 14th of this year. He is scheduled to go before District Judge Christopher Welch today.
