After hosting the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival over the past week, IUP is ready to welcome students back to campus for the spring semester.
Students are due to start classes again this week, and during the first week of classes, students will see the Racial Justice Coalition for Change to hold an anti-racism and anti-hate rally in front of the IUP library from 12-1 each day.
Later this week, the new multi-cultural student leadership and engagement center will hold its ribbon cutting ceremony. The center is located in the first floor of Elkin Hall on the corner of Oakland Avenue and School Street, strategically near the center of campus. IUP president Dr. Michael Driscoll said the place will allow students of any background to celebrate their history and identity while interacting with others who are different from themselves.
The office was created in 2016, and was one of the recommendations from the Middle States Accreditation Review, along with the outcomes from the faculty, staff and students who attended IUP’s Diversity and Inclusion Symposium in 2016. The office itself will combine two different offices: The Center for Student Life and the African-American Cultural Center.
The ribbon cutting is set for January 26th at 10 AM. It is free to attend and open to the public.
