As the high school football season is only a few weeks away from kicking off, local teams are hard at work during this sprint to make sure they are 100 percent prepared for opening night.
One of those teams being the Indiana Little Indians led by head coach Brandon Overdorff.
Indiana High held its annual media day yesterday at the high school, and Overdorff says that while players have been training physically both on the field and in the weight room, he also says they’ve been training to follow health guidelines put in place to make sure the season can live on.
In a Facebook interview with Jake Slebodnick, he said that the health guidelines are a character-building technique.
On the turf at Andy Kuzneski Field, the Little Indians return the majority of their roster from last year. This not only brings positive outlooks on both the offensive and defensive line, but it also widens the variety of players that see playing time due to experience last season. Overdorff said this led to a battle under center between last year’s starter, Fox Van Leer, and Devin Flint, who spent last season hurt. But coach says this doesn’t necessarily mean one won’t see time on the field.
One of the major problems that plagued Indiana was ball management. Overdorff said this has become a main focus point during training camp.
The Little Indians open their season on Sept. 11 with a road game against Armstrong. You can follow the Little Indians all season long on WDAD AM 1450, 100.3 and wdadradio.com
