As unemployment rates continue to increase from the COVID-19 pandemic, a new grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, could provide some relief for unemployed workers across PA.
This opportunity was announced earlier this week by PA Department of Labor and Industry secretary Jerry Oleksiak, when he said this grant was made possible after $1.5 million in federal funds was given to Pennsylvania as part of the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program administered by FEMA.
Oleksiak said in a press release that the department is working as quickly as possible to evaluate what it will take to implement the program and to begin paying eligible recipients the $300 weekly supplement, while awaiting final guidance from the federal government.
Eligible recipients must be collecting at least $100 from unemployment programs, must be able to prove full or partial unemployment due to disruptions from COVID-19 and payments for eligible claimants will be retroactive to August 1st.
