Yet another new trial date has been set for Ray Shetler Jr., the former New Florence man who is charged with brawling with state police and Westmoreland County detectives, seriously injuring one deputy in December of 2021. Shetler is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and single counts of resisting arrest and attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.
Shetler had skipped a probation hearing and was found hiding at his girlfriend’s mobile home outside of Seward. He has accused of police of seeking vengeance on him for the killing of St. Clair Township police officer Lloyd Reed in 2015, for which he was acquitted.
Judge Meagan Bilik DeFazio has set the new trial date for June 5th. It will be the seventh attempt at a trial, with the latest delay this month the result of a scheduling conflict.
