The Pirates were feeling pretty good about themselves after the bats awakened last weekend in a three-game sweep of Milwaukee. But last night, they ran up against one fo the best pitchers in baseball, and right-hander Lucas Giolito made history.

The Pirates will try to rebound this afternoon. Trevor Williams gets the start for the Bucs against Dallas Keuchel. Williams is 1-and-4 with a 3.70 ERA. The southpaw Keuchel is 4-and-2 with a 2.65 ERA on the year.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton says it was one of those games where you just appreciate the effort by the opposing pitcher.
Pirates’ closer Keone Kela was available to pitch on Tuesday, though he didn’t get into the game. He’s been out since Friday’s win over Milwaukee with forearm tightness. Also back on the bench for Tuesday’s game were Kevin Newman and Colin Moran. Both had left Sunday’s game early with injuries.
