A Blairsville woman is free on $100,000 bond after being arraigned Monday on charges related to the theft of more than half-a-million dollars from the medical practice for which she worked.
61-year-old Sandra Jo Doak is charged with six criminal offenses: theft, theft by deception by preventing the acquisition of information, receiving stolen property, forgery, unauthorized access of a device issued to another, and tampering with records.
Doak is specifically accused of stealing from the medical practice of Dr. Matthew Klain, which includes three physicians working out of offices in Burrell Township and White Township.
State police say Doak printed out checks payable to herself, transferring the money to her own accounts and made unauthorized credit card payments exceeding $25,000 on the practice’s accounts, starting in 2013. A search warrant executed on her accounts showed the theft of more than $500,000. Investigators say she used the money for vacations (including $14,000 for a trip to Disney World), tickets to concerts and sporting events, payment of her own personal debt, and even season tickets to Pitt football.
The investigation began in April. Doak is represented by attorney Jennifer Rega. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 8th.
