The Blairsville-Saltsburg school board provided an update on potential programs used to aide in the transition to online learning, and grant opportunities for special education programs during their meeting on Tuesday.
The district’s rebooted tech committee announced the purchase of NearPod, an award-winning interactive online classroom, for the upcoming school year. The board reports that $11,500 in PCCB grant funds will be used in the purchase. Teachers will also receive two professional development days to practice using NearPod. In addition, $8,000 of PCCB grant funds will go towards the purchase of Nepris, a program that connects students to industry experts remotely.
The board also reported that the Pennsylvania School Board Association will provide a COVID-19 Special Mitigation grant that will provide financial support to schools. Board member Mary Whitfield details what the grant will be used for.
The board later approved the hiring of AnnaLise Shank Jr. as the Jr. High Girls Volleyball Coach and Blair Shank Jr. as the assistant coach for girls’ volleyball. The board also recognized the retirement of Susan Dunlap, who worked as an elementary school teacher for thirty years. She retired on August 21.
The board’s next general meeting is scheduled for September 29.
