David DeCastro was back in pads Monday for the Steelers after missing the previous five sessions with an undisclosed injury.
Chuks Okorafor and Maurkice Pouncey were both absent from the first-team offensive line on Monday — Okorafor for a groin injury, Pouncey for a personal issue. Big Ben and JuJu Smith-Schuster were given the day off as well. In fact, coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers had 12 to 15 players miss practice or leave practice with minor injuries.
Tomlin says this is a key week for players to state their case for playing time.
The Steelers are looking for a new right tackle after moving Matt Feiler inside to guard. Chuks Okorafor is competing with Zach Banner for the job and with Chuks out yesterday, Banner got most of the reps. But he had to go against All-Pro linebacker TJ Watt, and Tomlin said that’s a tough assignment for anyone.
