SOFTBALL
Homer-Center’s Ava King dashed home with the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Wildcats a 2-1 victory over River Valley. King doubled to lead off the inning and when Emma Popp grounded to short, the throw got away at first base, with King rounding third and scoring the game-winner. The Wildcats trailed 1-0 in the 5th when Ashlyn Kerr tripled and scored on Alaina Fabin’s sacrifice fly. Bekah Marshall got the complete game win, striking out nine. Lily Buckles had two hits for River Valley. Sara Bolinger took the tough luck loss.
Marion Center topped Purchase Line, 14-4. Alexis Roush and Natalie Black each had two hits for the Stingers and Black hit a grand slam and had seven RBIs. Kayla Hill also homered. Kayla Hill struck out five and Brookelynn Hill struck out three, with each throwing three innings.
Portage led 4-3 in the bottom of the third when the Mustangs put up eight runs to sprint away from Penns Manor for a 15-4 win. Lily Koban had three hits, Lyndsey Castel had two hits including a home run and drove in four, and Makenna Redfern, Sydney Castel, Paigh Phillips, and Payton Noll all had two hits. For Penns Manor, Allison Stiteler had two hits and two RBIs.
West Shamokin scored in every inning on the way to a 17-0 win over United. Malena Stewart had three hits, with two doubles and four RBIs. Avery Elkin had three hits, with a double and a triple, and Lily Jordan had two hits, including a home run. Elkin struck out eight in the 5-inning game.
Cambria Heights scored eight runs in the first inning and topped Northern Cambria, 13-7. Macey Mezello had four hits, Riley Bernecky had three hits with two doubles and five RBIs, and Ellie Bender had three hits for the Highlanders. The Colts got two hits each from Morgan Hassen, Sarah Abel, and Kenzie Formeck, and a home run by Lakin Baker.
BASEBALL
An 11-run third inning rocketed Marion Center to a 13-2 win over Purchase Line. The Stingers strung together an RBI single by Nick Pacconi, a RBI double by Parker Black, a two-run single by Trey Slovinsky, a bases loaded walk to Dakota Bracken, then a Purchase Line error, a two-run single by Black, and a two-run single by Braden Reichenbach. Slovinsky and Black each had two hits. Black struck out seven in four innings for the win. For the Red Dragons, Quentin Brooks and Devlan Kordish each had two hits and Brooks drove in two runs.
After having lost to West Shamokin, 11-1, on Tuesday, United rebounded for a 9-0 win over the Wolves yesterday.
Indiana scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15-0 win over the Kiski School. Gage Thompson had 3 hits, and Landon Kodman and Mike Dolan each had two in a 15-hit Indiana attack. Dolan drove in three runs.
TOURNAMENT ACTION ON RENDA DIGITAL TV
The 11th Annual Homer-Center Baseball Booster Tournament gets underway today with two games at First Commonwealth Bank Field. Apollo Ridge tangles with Redbank Valley at 4 o’clock, and on Renda Digital TV tonight, Homer-Center plays Heritage Conference rival River Valley. We’ll be on at 6:50 PM.
The consolation game is tomorrow morning at 10:30. The championship game is at 1.
