BASEBALL
Homer-Center grabbed the lead away from Purchase Line early and downed the Red Dragons yesterday. Jake Slebodnick has the recap.
Marion Center broke open the game with six runs in the 4th inning and crushed the Kiski School, 15-2. Noah McCoy’s bases clearing triple was the big hit. He drove in four runs in the game. Camden Rising and Parker Black each had two hits and Black and Alex Stewart also tripled. Dakota Bracken went all five innings for the win, striking out seven.
SOFTBALL
Purchase Line jumped to an early 4-1 lead but Homer-Center rebounded with eight runs in the bottom of the 2nd and five in each of the next two innings and went on to a 19-6 win. Triples ruled the day…the Wildcats’ Kylie Krejocic, Bekah Marshall, and Alaina Fabin all had three hits and Krejocic had two triples, while Marshall and Fabin each had one. Ava King had three hits, including two doubles and she also got the win in the pitchers’ circle, striking out three. For the Red Dragons, Brooklyn Walker was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple and Aniah Byers and Bella Cessna each had two hits.
Indiana lost a Section game to McKeesport, 6-2. The Tigers scored two runs in the first and four more in the second to take 6-0 lead before Indiana plated both of its runs in the second. Ella Myers homered for Indiana and Haley Hamilton doubled. Addie Stossel struck out four Tigers batters.
TRACK & FIELD
In boys and girls dual meets yesterday, the United boys prevailed over Marion Center and River Valley to go undefeated and win the 2023 Heritage Conference Dual Meet championship; while Marion Center, Cambria Heights, and Portage end up in a three-way tie for the girls duals co-championship.
In the boys meet yesterday, United downed Marion Center, 114-35, and River Valley, 99-50. River Valley raced by Marion Center, 76-65.
In the girls meet, Marion Center defeated United, 88-60, and the Stingers upended River Valley, 97-44. United edged River Valley, 78-71.
The Heritage Conference Track & Field Championship meets will be May 9th at United.
