Pennsylvania is planning on launching an app for your smartphone that can let you know if you may have been exposed to Covid-19.
In a news conference earlier today, PA Secretary of Health Dr. Rachael Levine said that the app, called “Covid Alert PA”, will rely on Bluetooth technology to communicate with other app users, and will notify the user if they have been near someone who had Covid-19. She added that identities of the app users will be protected.
She added that this will help contact tracers with their work.
The system is voluntary, and is available for people 18 and older. The state is also working with Delaware and other states to make sure that the app is compatible with their apps. The app is expected to be available in September.
