After three days off, the Pirates open a three-game series with Cleveland tonight at PNC Park.
JT Brubaker takes the mound for the Bucs against Carlos Carrasco. The rookie Brubaker is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three appearances. He’s expected to go four or five innings. Carrasco is 2-2 with a 3.22 ERA.
Robert Murray of The Athletic reports that the Pirates have signed right-handed pitcher Jandel Gustave, pending a physical. Gustave is 27 years old and has a 3.43 ERA in 44-and-two-thirds innings at the Major League level with Houston and most recently San Francisco.
The Bucs’ reported signing of former All-Star pitcher Henderson Alvarez “did not materialize”, according to a tweet by Alvarez. He said the Pirates “signed another player,” but other sources said the Pirates were concerned that Alvarez isn’t healthy.
