TENNIS
The IUP women’s tennis team beat Slippery Rock, 4-1 yesterday to clinch their third straight PSAC championship. They also clinched a spot in the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament and will very likely host a first round Atlantic Region Tournament match at the Maple Street Courts. It’s the fifth all-time PSAC title for IUP.
Katy Graydon clinched the match at number four single, earning the PSAC Tournament MVP in the process. She and partner Karolin Kirchtag also won at number one doubles and Natalie Kmoskova and Joanna Stralka won at number two doubles. Lydie Vlachou posted a win at number five singles and Stralka won at number three singles.
The Atlantic Region matchups will be announced tonight.
Karolin Kirchtag has been named the PSAC Women’s Tennis Champion Scholar for the second time. She won it last season as well. The Salzburg, Austria native carries a 4.0 GPA through 137 undergraduate credits and is pursuing a master’s degree in sports science.
SOFTBALL
IUP was swept in a doubleheader by Mercyhurst on Senior Day yesterday. The Lakers won, 10-1 and 6-1.
