The Pirates scored seven runs in the second inning to take a 9-0 lead and held on to defeat the Cincinnati Red, 9-6, Thursday evening at Great American Ball Park.
Colin Moran and Adam Frazier homered in the first inning, and Gregory Polanco started the scoring in the second inning with a third home run and later pushed another run across with a base-loaded walk. Jacob Stallings, Josh Bell, Moran and Erik González added more runs batted in during the seven-run second.
Trevor Williams started for Pittsburgh and recorded his first win, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings.
The Pirates improved to 4-13. The Bucs take on the Reds again Friday, 6:45 airtime on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM.
