The State’s acting insurance commissioner is advising those affected by recent flooding on filing flood insurance claims.
Acting insurance commissioner Jessica Altman advises that you file your claim as soon as possible. Have all pertinent information handy and when possible, take photos or videos of water in the home and any damaged property. Make a list of damaged, destroyed or lost items and have as much detail on those items as possible, including the items age and value. Also, ask the insurer or agent of an approximate time of when the adjuster will visit the property, so you can plan accordingly, and make temporary repairs only if necessary before the adjuster can make any repair estimates.
Anyone with questions about flood insurance can visit the State Insurance department’s website at http://insurance.pa.gov or by calling 1-877-881-6388.
