A man charged with leading police on a chase was found guilty earlier today in Indiana County Court.
A jury found 20-year-old Fodie Camara of Philadelphia guilty of felony fleeing or eluding police and a count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and not guilty of other charges including resisting arrest, aggravated assault, a second count of disorderly conduct, and several summary traffic offenses. IUP Police officers said they tried to pull over a driver for not using headlights at night in the area of the Willow Avenue-South 11th Street intersection. The vehicle continued west on Willow and turned into the Foster Parking lot before going out on to Grant Street. The chase continued to Papermill Avenue, Oakland Avenue, and South 11th Street before the vehicle hit the curb and a metal street sign post. The vehicle veered back on the road and stopped in the middle of South 11th Street near the entrance to the Taco Bell restaurant.
Police say Camara allegedly opened the car door and tried to get out, disobeying police orders to stop and stay inside. Camara allegedly ran up 11th Street, but police were able to apprehend him. He resisted arrest and tried to hit the arresting officer before fleeing onto Washington Street. He was later picked up by police.
In a post on his social media page, Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi said that the case demonstrates a serious risk to law enforcement officers and to the community. Camara’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for October.
