After some rain came through the area on Friday, the Altoona Curve hung the Bowie Baysox out to dry with an 8-1 win.
Domingo Leyba had three hits and paid early dividends with two RBI in the first inning after hitting a shot to center field to score Henry Davis and Liover Peguro, who had been on third and second after reaching base on back-to-back walks and a successful double-steal. Leyba would then come in after Jacob Gonzales ripped a shot down the left field line. In the third, Connor Scott tripled home Peguro, and later scored on a wild pitch from Baysox pitcher Cade Povich.
The Curve added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Nolan Hoffmann. Gonzalez hit his second RBI-single of the day to score Peguero, before a Macias sacrifice fly and an Andres Alvarez RBI-double gave the Curve a cushion for the ninth.
Sean Sullivan had a good start, going 4 and a thirds scoreless innings in his PNG Field debut. He allowed two hits and two walks, but struck out three in the process. Cameron Junker was credited with the win, going 1 and a third innings in relief and allowing only one hit.
The two teams play again this afternoon.
