Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. has announced that a positive identification has established officially the identities of the two victims of a fatal fire early last Sunday in Green Township.
DNA tests confirm the deaths of 60-year-old Connie Eileen Davis-Shields of Two Lick Hill Road and 8-year-old Jeremy Guy Davis of Millay Circle, Indiana. Davis-Shields was Jeremy’s grandmother. He’d been staying the night with her at her mobile home. The DNA matched Connie’s daughter, who was also Jeremy’s mother.
The fire was reported to Indiana County 911 at 12:45 AM on Sunday. Firefighters found the mobile home fully engulfed when they arrived. They were able to get it out relatively quickly, but afterward they were told there was possibly a victim inside. Searchers found the body of Davis-Shields at 2:45 AM, and about five hours later, they found her grandson’s body.
Coroner Overman says the cause and manner of death for each is pending the results of their autopsies and toxicology reports. The state police fire marshal has yet to issue a report of the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, a fundraising effort to help Tracy Shields, Jeremy’s mom and Connie’s daughter, with expenses is still underway. You can donate to the effort by visiting https://www.youcaring.com/conniedavisshieldsandjeremydavis-1061935
